Mr. John Hudson
John Hudson joined Sêr SAM in October 2020, and is working for his Ph.D. under the supervision of Dr. Emrys Evans and Prof. Paul Meredith. John’s work investigates the fundamental photo- and spin physics of organic radical materials, towards achieving photomagnetism: the light induced switching of magnetic states for molecular-scale electronics and quantum information technologies.
John grew up in Kent, before receiving his BA (Hons)/MSci in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge.
His master’s thesis ‘Towards Radical Photovoltaics for Organic Electronics’, was supervised by Dr. Emrys Evans and Prof. Richard Friend, and focussed on trying to produce organic radical-based solar cells.
During his time at Cambridge, John was awarded a College Scholarship and elected Overall Captain of Pembroke College Boatclub. John also completed the EnterpriseTECH UG course run by the Judge Business School.
John has a strong interest in bringing about a sustainable future, and hopes to work with industry and academia to combat the climate crisis. John is a keen cook, rower and cyclist.
